Happy Thanksgiving

November, 2018

Gratitude is more than simply saying “thank you.” Gratitude has amazing powers and the ability to shift us from focusing on the negative, to appreciating what is positive in our lives. In honor of National Gratitude Month, we asked our Facebook followers to share their story, their favorite Centralia memory, selfie, or photos. Over the past few weeks we have been sharing the stories of gratitude from Centralians whose lives have been touched by the generosity of those in our community.

Here are a few stories we collected.

Brian Mittge:

Brian Mittge“This is a great idea! I’m so grateful for the hundreds of people who came together to celebrate the life and legacy of Centralia’s founder over the past year. The hardworking, generous spirit of George Washington certainly still animates Centralia. I have met so many good people in and around Centralia who live out George’s motto of “Peace and Plenty” and who agree with his simple philosophy: “I want to do right by my fellow man. And if I do, I’ll never lose anything by it.” #GratefulForCentralia #thirtydaysofthankfulness

Stuart Halsan:

Stuart Halsan“Thank you Brian. Yes, a wonderful idea. When Kathy and I were new to the area forty years ago and looking for a home the Realtors told us ‘oh, a lawyer and a teacher.. You will want to live in Chehalis on the hillside.. That’s where people like you live.’ Haha. We wanted a couple of acres so we kept looking.. Till we found it with one of our property lines the north Centralia city limits. We have never regretted it. Kind and welcoming people who would treat you with respect even if you disagreed. Centralia has been good to us and we have tried to give back in as many ways as we can. The change and blossoming of “our city” has been a wonder to see. George was right.. you will never lose anything by doing right by your neighbors.”

Here is a message that came in from someone wishing to remain Anonymous:

“Happiness is the gratitude for which all good things reside. I’m not saying I haven’t banked a few good times in other parts of the world but more so my happiness extends directly from the City of which I was born. I’ve learned to love and appreciate those around me and those people who have given to me, as well as others. It is the love that I have for the people who make the City of Centralia so great.”#GratefulforCentralia

At the Centralia Community Foundation we are most grateful for the participation, kindness, and love from our supporters. It makes us very proud to be working for the future of such a wonderful community.

From our Board of Directors,
we want to wish everyone a safe
and Happy Thanksgiving.
