GROW YOUR FUTURE – Lewis County Pathways in Health Sciences Event

On April 27th, 2023, from 6:00pm to 8:30pm at the Centralia College, in the TransAlta Commons, will be the first ever Lewis County focused Health Sciences career showcase event.

The Lewis County Pathways in Health Sciences – Grow Your Future event, is a collaboration with the Washington Association for Community Health/AHEC, Centralia College, Centralia School District, Capital STEM Alliance and Centralia Community Foundation to bring a vital opportunity to the High School students of Lewis County.

This event, which is focused on students grades 9 – 12, will feature a robust variety of careers in the health sciences fields, with special focus on Nursing, Behavioral Health, and Chemical Dependency Careers that include classroom tours of these health science programs and labs at Centralia College.

In addition to the careers that have offerings at the college, there will be activities and career experts to showcase many more health science roles. Additional careers to be showcased include, but are not limited to: EMT, Phlebotomy, Dentistry, Veterinary, General Medicine, Pharmacy, Medical Coding/Billing, Nursing Assistant, Home Health Aide, Nursing Specialties, and Lifeguards.

Throughout the event there will be breakout sessions with panels to allow students to engage with experts in a variety of careers and ask questions about the various fields they work in. Hearing about “a day in the life of,” as well as what higher education pathways were taken to become trained for the work in those fields will go a long way towards students being able to picture themselves in these professions.

Students will have the ability to stroll through the commons and meet a variety of employers and representatives from community-based organizations and workforce development focused agencies, who provide wraparound, and specialty supports to students and their families in the communities of Lewis County.

Information for financial aid resources such as FAFSA & WAFSA will be available and students will be able to speak to representatives from WA State Opportunity Scholarship, and US Military recruiters as additional avenues to supplement tuition costs.

There is still room available for additional employer partners to join in, volunteers to support the students at the event, and sponsors to donate our student raffle.
